As others have commented, I find it perfectly acceptable wide open. Comparing it to the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM I had, it's definitely sharper wide open. The 24mm used to sharpen noticeably at f3.2, but I can't really see much difference stopping down the 22. It's probably there, I just can't really see it. Maybe I just need to take some more shots.

Now tossing up between the 40mm pancake, or the older 35mm f/2 with an adapter. Chuck in the 85mm f/1.8, or the 100 f/2, maybe the EF-s 60mm macro, and you would have yourself a ripping good lightweight and very cheap setup with very very good IQ. Only my 2 cents.

Both are solid lenses. I returned the 40mm only because I found it too close in FL to the 35/2 that I already owned. That and the STM focusing is still a little weird to me, but I'm getting more and more used to it thanks to the M. I also just bought the EF 85/1.8, should be here tomorrow

I'd hope so given the price difference! Lovely shot btw ;) I'm really hoping their 24mm will be as good as their 35mm is... and then I hope a new 50mm is soon to follow, that or the EF 50/1.8 IS whenever Canon decides to release the darn thing!

I posted this same thing in a different thread, but I'd like to know about your answers. :D

I used to have a Canon T2i, and really loved the video from that camera. Right now I have an Olympus OM-D E-M5, and I really love it. I like to do fun videos from time to time, and I like the video from the OM-D when there isn't a lot of movement. It's very sharp! When there is movement there is a lot of macro blocking though. Last night I was editing a video from the OM-D, and compared it to the video from my T2i. The video from the T2i looked very nice. Made me want to buy one again just for the video. I then remembered the EOS-M. I can't believe I didn't think of it before!

This comes at bad time because I just bought a Sony RX100 to use at concerts for the times when DSLRs or cameras with removable lenses aren't allowed, which brings me to my first question. Do you think the EOS-M would pass as a point and shoot? Has anyone used it at a concert? I'll have to sell the Sony RX100 if I want the EOS-M.

Where is the best place to buy it right now? I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it looks in white, but I haven't seen it in a good price. I'd love to get the kit with both lenses and the flash. Has anyone had any experience with 1sale.com? They have the kit in black for 399.99

I'm tempted by the EOS-M camera!

Is focus around the same as with the OM-D with the Panasonic 20mm?

The OM-D combo is definitely faster, especially in servo.

Yeah, I know the 40 is good. I owned it up until just over a week ago, along with the 24 IS. Don't want to spend nearly double on the 35 IS (compared to the plain Jane 35), and I've never used the old 35, so it's a bit of a tossup. This time round I want to collect a series of fastish primes, at a reasonable cost, with decent IQ. Not interested in collecting L's just for the sake of L's.

To me there wasn't a lot of difference between the 35/2 and the 40/2.8 aside from a stronger vignette on the 35mm wide open. For me the extra stop of light was worth the louder focus motor. The old 35/2 is pretty darn sharp wide open, I've posted several samples from it in this thread ;)

Here's one, sorry for the repost

Thanks. Noise was little more so I just used LR BW defaults.

Why in the world were you shooting at F/22? Open it up to 2.8 and you wouldn't have had any noise issues. 3200 is pretty clean, even in bad lighting!
