If I understand what you're saying you're wrong, the aperture doesn't change with the 1.6 crop factor, only the focal length. In this case the focal length would be 136mm as you state but the f/stop would remain f/0.85.

JD

But the effect of the f0.85 would be like f1.35 on 1.6x crop. Because the larger sensor allows use of a higher ISO with same noise and shallower DOF, using f1.35 on FF would produce roughly the same result as f0.85 on 1.6x crop.

For example, ISO 3200 at 1.0 on 1.6x crop and ISO 5000 at f1.6 on FF are going to have about the same DOF and Noise. So you really do end up with a crop factor on aperture, too.

Andre and Taylor,

You're probably both right, I just didn't read it that way. In which case, that's a bunch of money for a lens that gives (essentially) the same results as the 50 f/1.4. And if it's the same one I saw a photo of, it's huge. Not something I'd want to put on an M anyway.

I guess if one is a dedicated "available darkness" shooter things are different.

JD

Love the M for what it is, and it's always super simple to pull out and shoot.

Finally adding prints to my wall.

Took the M on a very short trip to Joshua Tree, and by short I mean literately 15 minutes from camera out of the car to camera back in the car.
Next time I go I plan on staying at least 4-6 hours.

I live in the city where on a good night you see maybe 6-9 stars so seeing this many in person was just breathtaking.

Started off at F2.5 ISO 5,000 15 seconds, but I could see noticeable trails

So I pushed the 22mm lens to it's boundary at 2.0 and 13 seconds.

It was my very first attempt at shooting stars.

with the M back at canon for the 2nd time but they are keeping it much longer this time which means they are actually doing something instead of just sending it back. Hopefully I hear back within the week.
