Are you sure yours has the new firmware? That'd be the first thing I'd check. Then, make sure you use single zone AF.

sorry for the crappy cellphone pictures but yes I'm sure!

I just watched this comparison video, is it really like the second?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdqGnHVuHRw (external link)

Seems rather slow, I mean it's worse than my POS sanyo point and shoot from 5 years ago. Maybe because that has such a tiny lens it's faster(and it's not even fast actually lol)

When I watch the newest DRTV video it's quick!

I'm probably just reading too much into it, slow AF isn't even a real issue. I wanted it do to street photography but I'll jut stick to the MJU for that, I got a bunch of 135 film the other day, enough to last me till 2014!

It's shining at video, which is the #2 reason I got it, #1 was to adapt more MF lenses

It's definitely fast on bright and definited subjects. In low light and less defined things, it still hunts a lot.

Sunset shot on the way home from work with the EOS-M.

Wow, this is stunning. Im finding the M does sunsets very well.

Unfortunately ive probably shot my last with mine, its going back next week.
As much as i love it, and i do, it seems to be in the middle of my other cameras, and not really excelling at anything to make me want to keep it over my 60D.
The idea was to replace my 60D but after using it last night i dont feel i want to get rid of it, so the M has to go.
My Powershot S110 focuses faster, and will go in my pocket. it also has a nicer zoom range for me.
The 60D is much faster to AF etc, so if a crop camera is needed this would need to be the one i turn to.
The M, well, it does video better than the 60D, even better than my 5DMKIII as i dont have a stabilised mid range zoom lens, and IQ is more than good enough with the 22mm. Im finding the 18-55 to be a bit soft when shooting at distances wide open but dont want to put a bigger lens on it (and the adaptor has already gone back)

Ill try and post a few more shots before it goes, i do enjoy using it, i just wish i didnt have the other cameras to make things complicated.

I can't see myself getting rid of this camera ever. Love it too much, and for the price it's amazing.

For those who like DSLR performance, why not have both? And they take the same lenses.

I have a feeling this little EOS-M is going to be a late bloomer. Canon made it the way a mirrorless should be: APS-C, and accepting all the regular lenses. Sure, Sony was already doing this, but Canon has a much bigger presence in the lens market (especially with rentals). I love how it's so easy to rent any glass you want at reasonable rates.

Thank you. bw!

Bingo! The M is at its best as a compliment to, not a replacement for, a Canon dSLR. The enthusiast should have both.

.

Well if thats directed at me, and i take your point, what would the M offer over my 60D, or S1110 if i didnt want to take my 5DMKIII out?

For those who like DSLR performer wouldn't it make sense to get something that offers it? There are many mirrorless cameras around that seme to offer much closer to a DSLR than the M does.
IQ aside, the only two things i can think of that the M offerers are compatibly with Canon lenses, and the new low price.

Over 60d, much much smaller camera, over S110,, better images I would guess.

I posted these on another thread.

Dave, your problem is that you have to many dang cameras. This is a good problem to have.

Over the 60D, not much smaller. The 60D with 40mm is quite small, and neither will just fit in a pcoket
IQ is good, no question, but the amount of keepers is much lower with the M, compared to the 60D. In that case, i dont see the point of taking it.
I do think its just not for my style of shooting though. I thought it would work, and it does, but not as good as the camera it was supposed to replace.
The S110 is quicker to react, so again, its keeper rate is higher, and its pocket size. yes, IQ is lower, but id rather get a grainy shot than to miss it altogether.

Haha, if only. My 5DMKIII is my main camera, and thats about all i use day to day really.
The 60D was supposed to be sold to help finance it, but i still haven't got around to that, and my 9 year old son is getting in to photography. The 60D make more sense for him to learn on.

The S110 is used when i go to gigs (my own) as it fits nicely in my suit bag, or when i go out for a meal etc. In either case a camera bag is not possible, so i can see the M getting left behind again.
Im not down on the camera as such, just that for me its redundant, at least for now.

this camera is a great DSLR compliment for me. IQ blows the S100 out of the water as expected, and it's at least on the same level as the 60D with the exception the 60D does not have an affordable 22mm pancake that has canon's latest L optics. It's blazing sharp wide open.

biggest downside is that like the S100, it's a still life camera. Dont expect the AF to lock on moving subjects, even walking. The AF locking indoors low light is quite a bit worse than the 5Dc outer points.

that said, this is a very good family occasion camera. Some folks are intimidated by my large camera, and this has zero intimidation factor. I'll still favor my DSLR when at the fair/museum/show/ect.

Can you post some ISO3200/6400 shots from the S110 without flash.:)

60d can't be like SL1. I have 6d, used 5dmk3 and to me M is much much smaller. And 40mm f2.8 on 60d is like 65mm too long IMHO.

I dont want to derail this thread but check this S110 set out. Most are ISO3200 and above.

My point about the size was that unless it goes in the pocket ill need to take a bag. and if i need to take a bag, i can fit the 60D with 40mm (at least in it.)
I don't particularly like wide lenses, i dont really use 24mm on my 5D much, i do tend to hit 70mm far to often and wish for a bit more with my 24-70.
IME a 35mm lens on a crop is ideal for me as a walkabout lens, so 40mm is also fine, but then i dont walk about with a crop.

It's definetly easier to carry the M, then my 5d. I will take the smaller sensor and slightly skittish AF to save weight and bulk:

You take S110 coz they don't allow dSLRs in those venues. So similar thing with us folks. You go dinner with friends, I am not going to carry my 5dmk3, 35L. M will do. Want to shoot kids video it is there. And much better than iPhone.

Nice shots BTW. Wish there were some indoor shots but that is another topic.
