Well I bit the bullet after longing for more range and had my eyes set on either the 400mm 5.6 prime or the 100-400mm zoom. I chose the zoom because of it's versatility as i shoot a wide variety of things. Unfortunatley I had to let my beloved 70-200mm f4 go to help pay for the lens which i got a pretty good deal used.

Should be here in a couple of days as it's coming from the US but i'm having sleepless nights and waiting anxiously for my new toy. I'm sure that THIS lens will keep my satisfied for a long time :)

Will post some pics as soon as i get a chance.

I loved that lens to death when I had mine. I've been having withdrawls for the past few months without it. It funded my 24-70L. I will have another one soon enough.

Congrats. Enjoy.

:) that's funny because i was having withdrawl not having one. Actually i think when you were selling yours (I think it was you?) i was debating whether or not to get it, it just wasn't time.

Yup, sold mine to JoeTwelvePack. I think it was a few months ago. Seems like I've been without my baby forever. :-( I'd give anything to have that exact same one back.

Tyger ... I'm sure you'll enjoy the new lens ... my wife's been using hers for about a year now and she loves it. I've been using the Bigma for a bit longer and won't part with that, but we're now also looking at adding the 400 5.6 to the arsenal. I've seen some amazing shots with that lens.

cheers,
jim
(oh yeah, nice to also see you on BF)

Hey Jim, great to see you there too :)
I was looking into the bigma as well but i really like the idea of having IS on the lens as I like to hike alot.

Thanx for the birding tips i've been looking around for places to check out.

Wow, congrats Tyger! That's the lens i want but the price is way out of my budget. So i settle for a used Bigma which i'm happy with. You will love the 100-400L. ;)

You won't look back, just do some bicep curls in the meantime.

I love this lens. My only complaint concerns the hood. The threads on the lens to which it attaches are getting scratched because of how it attaches. Oh well.

Well the good news is the lens is great in every way and the IS is ooohhh so sweet. The bad news is i can't really get out there until the weekend

As for the range...it is awesome! here are some sample pics...nothing exciting, just taken to see if the lens was in working order., no post processing as well, also the wether is really crappy !

This is at 100mm from my apartment on the 17th floor, i'm actually higher up than it looks.

I may be going birding this weekend to really test out this lens, i'll also do a review after a few days, but so far i am very impressed with the lens regarding the IS and Picture quality.
