I am currently using a '11 MacBook Pro as my editing work station. I upgraded my HDD to a SSD and moved the factory 750GB 5400rpm HD into the optical bay in which I use for personal storage(music, movies, etc), my photography business and Lightroom library and some other media storage. I do most of my video editing off of OWC 7200rpm Elite Minis and Dual Minis.
My question is, will notice any significant performance difference when editing photos or videos stored on my factory MBP HD in the optical bay by upgrading the that HD to a 750GB 7200 WD Black HD?

It might be measurably faster, but I doubt it would be noticeably faster.

Putting your Lightroom catalog on an SSD is the #1 thing you can do to improve editing speed. It sounds like you have your catalog on the 750GB spinny drive. I would try moving it to your new SSD.

5400 -> 7200 isn't very significant, 7200 -> 15000 is significant, and any spinning drive -> SSD is going to be a very obvious upgrade in speed.

Yeah, the Lightroom catalog is basically a lot of files spread across a lot of folders, so a fast seek time is going to be king. For video editing, you're dealing with a few really big files, so drive speed is less of an issue than sustained transfer speed; basically you're going to want to make sure the video drive is connected via USB3 or Thunderbolt or at least FW800.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.
