350D lens choice

HI

I got a 350D as soon as they came out and have always used the standard lens that came with the camera. Its done fine but now i am looking to replace the lens with 2 new ones. Im looking for something that will give me a high amout of zoom as ive often wished i could get a little closer, especially with wildlife images. Im also looking for a more everyday lens with a good range, which i can use for general stuff like family photos and some macro stuff and mountainbike action shots.

Although i like taking pictures im not really knowledgeable on the numbers and stuff, i just point and shoot. So please dont confuse me with f numbers.

Can someone recommend a couple of lenses which will do what i need. I dont really have a budget but i would like a reasonable set, nothing cheapo and nothing really expensive. unless you feel i only need one lens that i can spend more on the one lens.

p.s. Ive seen on ebay some really cheap telephoto lenses such as this: (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcm​dZViewItem). I imagine these are pretty crap but can they be useful in optimum conditions with a tripod or will the images still be poor?

Wildlife in zoo's or safari parks and in the wild need different lengths. I would look at the following:

Sigma 100-300mm f4
Canon 300mm IS L
Sigma 50-500
Canon 100-400
Canon 400mm 5.6

Prices range here from £500-1000. The 300mm style lens can have a 1.4 TCon added to give 420mm and that will cost around £120 extra.

General stuff I would go for Sigma 24-70 2.8, Tamron 28-75 2.8 or Canon 17-85 IS L. Personally, I would go for the Sigma first.

It really does depend on budget and usage, particularly light requirements. I've owned most of these so can vouch for them all.
