Processed it and then added a b&w layer, which I reduced the opacity on.

I do not get an abandoned feel from this. I think it has to do with the subject more than any PP you are doing. The windows and wall above the stairs simply look too clean and too modern to fit with that description, in my view. Also the green grass adds life which is contrary to something that has been abandoned. Looks like the sprinklers are still working :)

Not really getting abandoned either. As mentioned above its the subject more than anything you've done with it. The paint might be a bit flaked, but the rails are intact and other than a bit of rust no sense of decay is present. Thats not to say it isnt a good enough photo, just not getting the abandoned vibe.

Here's my take on how this image might convey abandoned. I still don't like it though because the rail is just too nice looking. I burned the grass, reduced vibrance to -48, added contrast of +45, and reduced brightness by -40. And a crop.

Is this helpful? This is my first time attempting to edit someone else's image, so this is "my take", not saying it's the only way or the best way, by any means. Just throwing it out there.

There's too much in the photo for me. Just looks dirty really:confused: the angles take the eye every-which-way. Sorry.

Looks a bit too bright to have the "dark, abandoned" feel. To me, at least.

The architecture reminds me of the living quarters of a Stevenson lighthouse.

If you ever travel to US and head for the slums in various cities, you will see many abandoned buildings.

Sorry your photo does not lead me to beleive its abandoned . I think ddk632 crop with just the stairs leads me to beleive the steps have not been taken cared of and the possibilty of abandoned

Not quite old and decayed enough to feel abandoned. The sign makes it even less so.
