Yep, a question indeed considering I shot these at my neighbor's front yard :). My neighbor planted about 50 sunflowers and are now dead and most have dried up. I noticed this tiny wren going up the fence, then disappearing under the dried sunflowers. Then up again, then down, up then down. I said I have to get a good shot of the wren because its the only time I've seen it going into the open. So, I did what a sane birder would do, got my blind and planted myself just beside the fence. While waiting for the wren to come up, I saw some weird looks from my neighbors, yep, my reputation probably been shot, they probably are thinking I'm a loony :).

Great set, I love #2. Looks like your on your way to a big year with all these crazy birds you've been getting. Were these and the Bushtits with the 400mm 5.6?

So, lets see, you set up a blind in your yard, got some fantastic shots of the little Wren, no problem there, if your neighbors gave you funny looks then they don't understand and likely never will. I do, Continue on I say!
Great shots by the way, very well done.
I do understand though, I recently went to mt Grandsons ball game with the 5D and the 70-200, I was shooting high speed trying to catch the ball when I heard a lady behind me say, Well he sure wins the gadget of the day prize!......A gadget, lol

I am sure somewhere out there is a T-shirt that says "It's A Birder Thing"

Don't worry Jo, nosy neighbours always need someone to talk about. When I had neighbours I used to wave at them when I saw them peeking out from behind their curtains. Now I have no neighbours, only sheep, they don't seem too bothered what I'm doing :)
We all understand on here and that's what matters. That and the great series of shots you got of the Wren. Time well spent IMHO.

The shots are well worth a few stares; well done.

Last February I stood up on the county road in front of our house for over an hour straight, on several occasions, waiting for a pileated woodpecker to take flight. Neighbors would drive past me on their way into town and come back later to find me still planted there. But as I have gotten older, I feel less inclined to be disturbed by their stares.

So, you have at least one fallacious assumption in your description; there isn't any such creature as a "sane birder" ;) And yes, I'd do the same thing; to heck with the neighbors...heh Wonderful wren shots there.

I've low crawled across a busy beach, with a full photo backpack and camera held up to my face to get in closer to shore birds; and you really DO get some funny looks from people :D
