I was using my s95 for videos, of which I started to do with a lot more consistency in the last month. The s95 kept me happy for a short while, the number one reason I was not happy, is there is no zoom while shooting function.
So I researched and came up with the Canon HF-M500. I love this little video cam. I was at B&H ready to spend a lot of money on a different model, and they convinced me to try this model, for about a 1/4 of the cost of the other model I was looking to purchase.

This led me to using another tripod and fluid head - which B&H convinced me to spend 1/2 as much as I was planning to spend. So I saved a ton of money.

...except now I am carrying more stuff each time I go out, as the video cam/tripod go everywhere with me, just as my gear does.

just a few of my thoughts...
Pierre

Oh, be glad that you actually can take your stuff along with you, just the battery of my camera weighs more than your whole camera.

Anyway, having a tripod along for video is definitely the right way, because nothing's worse than shaky footage. IMO, there isn't much point to bringing a video camera along without a tripod, you may as well just use the camera in your phone or a stills camera w/ video instead.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

You don't have to always have a tripod with you, you know...

Sometimes I head out with the 5D2 around my neck, tripod on my back, second lens hanging off the tripod bag, filters in my pockets, etc...other days I just have my S100 in my pocket...
