google crawl errors

There's no great place for this thread; and the question is probably so obscure that few will be able to respond, however:

I noticed that I'm getting hundreds of crawl errors in google webmaster--all pointing to a gallery that I've deleted. This gallery is not in the sitemap, but google keeps crawling it and finding these errors.

How do I get this to stop ? And are all of these 404s affecting my overall site ?
