Don't tell me the geniuses at canon or Nikon for that matter can't make a tilt shift lens autofocus. At least when it's not shifted or tilted.

Tell me why. And dumb down the explanation. Remember who you're talking to

It would just be a feature that would hardly be used yet hike up the cost considerably.

I don't think that it's a issue of being able to or not, it's an issue of not wanting to invest the time and money into R&D in order to get autofocus on these lenses when they AREN'T tilted/shifted.

They already cost so much to begin with, autofocus would just increase the price, being an unnecessary feature on a lens that is designed for a fairly specific audience in mind, where manual adjustments aren't a big deal.

24 TSE is about 2.2K$, with autofocus it be 2.8K$ ? What's next ? Auto-Tilt, Auto-Shift ?

Basicaly Manual Focus is never an issue when shooting TSE

Hi Mark

It does have focus confirmation though. Although that's limited when tilted to a certain extent.

Would you like to buy a vowel?
Go ahead, spin the wheel.

Because, it is basically a single purpose lens. It is made for landscapes/architecture....where most don't use autofocus. With live view, I pretty much quit using autofocus when I'm on my tripod, even with AF lenses. I pop it on the tripod, kick on live view and magnify to 10x and manually focus on what I want. You can get much sharper images that way, especially when shooting in low light or low contrast.

The other aspect of T/S lenses is creative focus. How do you determine creative focus points if the camera is deciding that for you?

I don't know for sure, but I think the AF system of the camera would also need different because of the different focal planes T/S is capable of. So, not only would the lens need AF, but you'd need a body capable of it as well.

I suppose they could make one that would AF when not tilted or shifted, but there are MUCH cheaper L series primes that could do that for you.

I guess they don't see it as a profitable investment to put AF on a lens that is made to be tilted and shifted.
