i just pulled the trigger on a canon 24-105L for $1095 plus shipping. man that's a lot of jack for a lens but i have no true walkaround lens and constant lens swaps are a drag.

well, my hope is the 24-105L will replace my tamron 28-75, which is a great lens but just doesn't have the range i need for a go-to lens.

i'll also be heading to the monterey/carmel area next weekend for a 2-3 days of R&R so i'll have ample opportunity to put the lens through its paces :) .

That's a very good buy and a logical replacement. Best of luck with it.

thanx Condyk. didn't you buy this lens too?

i think the key to happiness for a walkaround is overlap. i think your go-to lens must overlap your other most used lenses or else you'll be constantly swapping glass and never sure which lens to start out with.

at least that has been the case for me.

the 28-135 was the closest i came to a true walk around but my previous lens was a 24-85 and i knew from the beginning that 28mm just was not wide enough while 24mm is about the same as the WA on my PS camera so i could get away with it for most shooting.

of course there are other reasons that i chose the 24-105L. great reviews, superior build, L lens POP, more reach etc.

these upgrades all comes at a healthy premium and the tamron is an excellent lens especially after you figure in price.

so we'll soon see if i am thinking harder or smarter :) .
