Saw this little guy around the house today for the first time during some rain. Couldn't see him very well but was convinced it was something new around here or at least to me so during a break in the rain drops grab the 50d and went looking for him. It was still dark and dismal and he was at quite a distance for the 300L but figured I could get something good enough for an ID even though it will probably appear a little on the grainy side as it is large crop. I did a little research and came up with a winter wren but am not positive so am hoping for some confirmation.

Thanks!

Hello Mike,I would agree, looks like a Winter Wren to me. I have had one around here all summer, he NEVER will come out in the open, as soon as he sees me, he is gone. I am hoping to get some of him this winter. Very nice shot standing on that rock like he is King of the yard, which he may be!
Well done sir.

Very nice, I agree, winter wren (considering your location). But the experts say that the best way to ID a bird is thru the calls they make.

... does it really matter?i see with my eyes, i shoot with my fingers.
