I made a post about how much I appreciate digital over film some time back and was caught by surprise at the viciousness of the attacks on my thoughts and on me personally.

Hahahaha.....:)

How back then?
Back in 2007 we have film Rebel300 at home as main camera and the only digital 3.1 MP P&S was only for convenience.

It was a couple of months ago. Some took his comments as inflammatory rhetoric (others as simply uninformed), and so it took off from there. I think the phrase he used was that film was just nostalgia now.

Hehehehehe.........you know these film crowds still believe that digital photography is just a fad. And film would become mainstream again. :) Every pro shooting with a DSLR would be out of work this time...... They should have a disclaimer that discussion of digital photography is totally and seriously, like, prohibited. Any offenders shall be banned for life.

No, I don't think any film guy thinks that. The reasons to shoot film are few, but there are some. Different situations call for different mediums.

You know some still do think this way.....how else can one explain that you can be verbally attacked by the film crowds just because you think shooting film is all for nostalgic purposes. Seriously, film photography is more useful when comes to large format photography. With 35mm? Who would do a paid gig shooting with a 35mm film body?

I don't know a single film photographer (and I know dozens) who "believe(s) that digital photography is just a fad."

If you have the time, read some of the posts here. You may get a chuckle from them.

I'm not going to go through 189 threads at APUG to find where someone said "digital photography is a fad."

Here is what they say they are:

APUG.ORG is an international community of like minded individuals devoted to traditional (non-digital) photographic processes. We are an active photographic community; our forums contain a highly detailed archive of traditional and historic photographic processes. We'd like to thank all of the photographers out there who have given us the encouragement to see this concept through. Our Partners Ilford, Calumet, Adox, Freestyle Photographic, Fomafoto and Photo Warehouse equally fund our community.

Given that they clearly state what they are, i.e., "like minded individuals devoted to traditional (non-digital) photographic processes", why you would even bother to go there if you are not similarly "like minded"? How is arguing for the goodness of digital on that forum any different from trolling?

And, furthermore, why is holding them up for ridicule on this forum appropriate? Why do you even WANT people from here to visit there for "a chuckle"?

To me, it only demonstrates a small mind.

Tom

Here is an interesting post by Steve. Obviously, he started the post because he tried to clear up some issues whether or not digital photography is a fad...:)

Look at us on the POTN...do we talk about film photography is a fad or making a come back and putting all those pros shooting with DSLR out of work? No, we don't.

Yes, small mind with the film crowds. I agree.... :) So, basically, they have a disclaimer. Should we, POTN, have a disclaimer forbidding any discussion on film photography and anyone shooting Nikon???

I guess I'm just not getting the point of this thread. You had a disagreement on some other forum so you decided to drag that **** into this forum?

Their point is there are many places to discuss digital photography, but not many places to discuss analog photography. By the way, they're backwards: film is digital (the grains either turn color or they don't) while digital is really analog (an A to D converter is used). ;)

Now that you mentioned it, it seems to pretty well sum it up.

So, again, why do YOU even WANT to go there and argue with them, or come here and try to solicit allies to agree with your arguments against them?

Their statement is not a "disclaimer"; it is a statement of the purpose of the forum. You don't agree with that purpose. Fine. Go elsewhere.
