I've had a problem with one of my 580EX II's being stuck to my 1D3 for at least the last month... I don't use that body much anymore (at all, ever) and just was trying to reconcile all my gear out of my floordrobe and discovered one of my flashes stuck to it.

By stuck I mean, the locky thing won't push in all the way, and the flash won't come off. I just can't get it to... I tried jamming a screwdriver in there, then hammering said screwdriver, but it seems to be well and truly stuck if I try to take it off that way.

I remember reading an easy fix for this around here a while back, but now I can't find the thread for the life of me.

Any ideas how to get it off?
Time's not a big deal, as I said I barely use this body or flash.

hmmm. Sounds like the locking in got jammed in the hotshoe. You already tried wiggling the flash while pressing left on the unlock switch right? You could always try wedging a credit card sized piece of plastic in between the flash and camera hotshoe. Not sure if it will work though.

Send it to me, I'll help you forget about that problem.

Try moving the switch to the right and pushing the button, otherwise you can risk breaking the lock getting it off. Maybe a very slight drop of oil in the lock button. It may break it though so don't take my word for it

Hurrr. I'm dumb, pushing it to the right then pushing the button hard did it fine. Must have got stuck in a ever so slightly unlocked but locked position... or something. Thanks.
I can't believe that's been on there for a month!

Glad it worked for you, seemed like a logical guess to unlock it
