... I just sent my last 5DII to Canon for cleaning, calibrating and an estimate on a shutter replacement. They did the work and sent it back without even emailing to give me an estimate on the shutter. I called Canon Professional Services and they gave me the shutter count (165K) and said the reason for no contact is that the shutter tested OK and the policy is not to replace them until there is a problem.

So, now I have to figure out what price to ask for the camera. Presuming a shutter replacement costs $300, which seems on the high side given what I can find on-line, what do you think is a fair price?

Low shutter count cameras are going for $1400 ±. My camera is in good shape otherwise, just minor scuffing. And everything is within spec based on the CPS C&C. It will include an off brand grip and everything that comes in the box.

Suggestions?

$300+tax is what I got quoted for a 5d2 shutter replacement at a local camera service shop here. Given that you can get a new 5d2 for 1550, I would agree $1k top will be a fair asking price.

I think $1000 might be pushing it a tad.

Thanks guys.

Of course someone could get a lot of clicks on it before having to get the shutter replaced. :-)

Im in the market for one next week, and personally I would go for Canon CLP for $1500+ with a 90 warranty and more then likely less shutter clicks.

I think it will sell quickly for $1000 with the grip.

WoW, have prices on 5dmkii really dropped that much!!!!!??? even though shutter count is high, canon told you its still working fine and they cleaned and inspected the camera. $1000 seems ridiculously low to me... Ive got a 5dmkii, so I hope the prices stop falling

Good luck :)

A high percentage of 5DIIs do a whole lot more than the rated 150,000 clicks (see http://www.olegkikin.com …rlife/canon_eos5dmkii.htm (external link)), so after a CLA at Canon I would think you could find a buyer for it around $1200, especially throwing in a grip and extra battery. That's about a $300 discount off the going price for a low shutter count camera without a grip. It also gives you a little room to barter, if the buyers want to haggle over the price. It still seems like a steal, all things considered.
