Man I'm gonna have to rent a TS-E and see what all the hoopla's about. This is sounding almost like the same kinda religious experience of using and seeing images from a 5Dc for the first time :)

Yep, there just is no comparison. The TS-E 17L and TS-E 24L II are incredible lenses, although the 24L II is no slouch either :).

I appreciate everyone else's opinions on this matter. The hyperfocal distance for a 5D2/17mm/F5.6 is 5.64', with acceptable sharpness at ~3', and gets better beyond 5.6 ... sounds good to me :)

I'd suggest you'd set your expectations slightly differently. DoF calulators base DoF on a viewing distance of about 25 cm for 6-8 lp/mm, which amounts to a CoC for FF of 0.3 mm, and for APS-C of a little over 0.2 mm. I'd suggest you recalculate at about 1/3 of that, for proper 20/20 vision :D. This is where these lenses really shine suddenly ;).

Kind regards, Wim

If money was no object, I would get both. :-)

+1. Buy both, sell the one you like the least. And if you like my advice, sell that to me cheap.
