Forgive me if this has been asked. I used the search function and it turned up nothing.

I want to move up to a 5DIII, but as we all know, it won't fire OCF using a PW Mini TT1 and TT5 set-up. Are there any other flash triggers available that will work with the 5DIII? If so, I'll sell the PWs when I sell my 5DII.

Ive been using my Pocketwizards for almost 2months now and they work fine on my 5D mkIII.
I can hypersync 1/2000th, anymore than that and it starts to get slight banding.

Hmmm, I tried to us my Flex and Mini today with my new 5D III in TTL and all I was getting was blown images?

Do I need to update my PW Firmware?

If you haven't done so, yes, you will need to update..

OP, for an alternative to the PW's, have a look at this thread..

Ah cool - I'm still on a really old Firmware from about 2 years ago. I only used them with my 7D and didn't really have time today to try and find out why all my shoots were way out!

Thanks for the reply..

While the YN-622s are very nice triggers. They don't provide some of the benefits offered by the ControlTL option.

If you already have them the ControlTL stuff works fine. If you are planning to invest in triggering technology for 5DIII and speedlites, start with the 600EX-RT. Everything else is a distant second.

I used ControlTL until the 600EX-RTs became available. (still have one mini and one flex) I have YN-622s for 5DII and Di866s, and have 600EX-RTs for use with 5DIII.

Can't argue with that…

Once the OP updates the firmware he'll be good to go.. I did sell my PW's for the Yongnou's with no regrets at all though..

Depends entirely on how you were using them.

I have Einstein moonlights, the MC2 trigger module lets me place the E640s into the mix as Group C lights and control them over a 6 stop range using FEC. That's either from 640 down six stops of from 160Ws down. That's why I kept one mini and flex. I can use the 600EX-RT on camera in ETTL and then remotely control power on the E640s. No other way to do that. Oh, and the Flex is backup plus option to have another 600EX as group B for ratios along with the FEC control of group C.

Thank you very much ChesterJohnPhoto for the info. I updated to the Beta firmware and my PWs will now work with my 7D, where they wouldn't before. Now I'll go to my local camera store and try them out on a 5DIII. If they work, and I'm sure they will, I'll be walking out with a new camera. Thanks again.

You didn't need the lastest beta firmware for the TT1/TT5 and the 7D. PW had 7D support a couple months after that camera was released back in 2009. Production firmware would have been sufficient.

True, but the title of the thread and OP are asking about 5DIII. That requires the beta ware.

James P,

Canon's 600EX-RT Flash makes a nice Flash Trigger;

For my 5D Mk III I use an off shoe cord attached to a Canon 600EX-RT set as Master and it fires my second Canon 600EX-RT set as Slave via radio. I control the flashes via the menu of my Canon 5D Mk III. For sports it fires via HS at whatever SS I use; 1/800 or 1/1000. Canon sells a radio trigger for the 600EX-RT that you can mount on your hot shoe instead of an off shoe cord.

Yes, but the OP also replied: "I updated to the Beta firmware and my PWs will now work with my 7D" implying that he was never using the PWs with the 7D *until* he just recently updated to beta FW.

dmward and ocabj: You are both correct. Before I could install the beta firmware, I needed to update to the latest "official" release, which I now understand made the PWs work with the 7D.

Thanks for the help everyone.
