Depends entirely on how you were using them.

I have Einstein moonlights, the MC2 trigger module lets me place the E640s into the mix as Group C lights and control them over a 6 stop range using FEC. That's either from 640 down six stops of from 160Ws down. That's why I kept one mini and flex. I can use the 600EX-RT on camera in ETTL and then remotely control power on the E640s. No other way to do that. Oh, and the Flex is backup plus option to have another 600EX as group B for ratios along with the FEC control of group C.

David can you explain that a little, you have a 600EX-RT on camera, is that on top of the Mini? Where are you setting the power of the E640 then (group C on the flash master control? )

Yes. The way ControlTL controls power remotely is to use 0 as half way through the FEC range. Thus, since the range is 6 stops, when FEC is 0 the power on the Einstein will be 3 stops below the top of the range its been set to in firmware. i.e. top 6 or bottom 6 of the 8 stop range it has natively.

The 600EX-RT, or 580EXII or 580EX that is mounted on top of the mini is controlling the power via the group C setting when using ratios.

I'll have to get an MC2 to validate this. The information above is from PW tech support answering my questions.

I did upgrade the firmware on my mini and flex to the beta version (6.153) the 600EX-RT works as one would expect. I didn't do any distance testing.

If an AC3 is used on the mini rather than a speedlite, then Einsteins can be placed in any of the three groups n controlled via the power dials on the AC3.

It would be interesting to see what would happen with an Einstein in group B and the speedlites set to M via the master.

Ok thanks, wow that is pretty tricky, I never would have though of that working. Keep us posted how it goes if you get the MC2.

Its such a shame PW and Canon could not work together though, they have 2 very good systems that are both slightly fragmented now.
