Can anyone help me, I would like to use DPP to process my cr2 file and then use the ALT +P option in DPP to auto load my files in Photoshop cs6. The only problem is that I have cs6 64 bit and the ALT=P option in DPP will only automatically open CS6 32 bit as it look in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\photoshop.exe for the Photoshop file instead of the 64 bit directory of C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\photoshop.exe

I have called Canon and they could not tell me how to configure DPP to change the pointer that directs ALT+P to the application directory.

Does anyone know how to change this or have any alternate suggestions

Environment is
Windows 64 bit
CS6 64 bit
All my plugins are 64 bit so using the 32 bit software is not an option.

Thanks for the assistance

If you go to the DPP Help File and search on "Transfer to Photoshop" there are two things I see that may be pertinent.

1. "Compatible versions of Photoshop are 7.0 or later"
and
2. "For CS4 or later versions of Photoshop, this function is not available if a 32-bit version is not installed."

How comfortable are you with the Windows Registry? If you feel good about it there might be some things discussed at http://www.naturestrands.com …dpp-feature-in-windows-7/ (external link) that would be worth a try.

The link above is out of date so I've made some modifications to get it working for CS6.
There is a work around for DPP looking for the 32bit version and is the following... The current DPP setup looks for the 32 bit version which is not helpful.

Let me say first that if you have not worked with the registry before and don't know what you're doing then you may not want to try to follow these steps... You do this at your own risk.

1. Open the windows registery by using the "regedit" program (Click Start and in the text box type "regedit").

2. If the following branch doesn't exist in your registery, create it : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Photoshop\12.0] << Note No space between the t and o when you create your branch.

3. Inside the "12.0" branch, create a string value named "ApplicationPath" and give it as value the path of Photsoshop 64 bits (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\). You can do this by right clicking on "12.0" section and then choose New -> String Value

4. Inside the "12.0" branch, create a string value named "PluginPath" and give it as value the path of Photsoshop 64 bits plugin folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Plug-Ins\).

5. Close regedit.

6. Restart DPP and try the keystroke of ALT-P

****** Edit *******

Path for CS6 is the following --- C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\ I did edit obove, but wanted to make clear the path to CS6 on 64bit.

I used the above instructions to get Windows 7 64bit to open CS6 using the ALT-P keystroke.

davidc502 steps are same as at the link I provided. NOTE: do not copy paste from David's steps as he has an extra space in "Phot oshop" which will cause the registry change to not work.

2. If the following branch doesn't exist in your registery, create it : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Phot oshop\12.0]

The link John provided is out of date as it was pointing to CS5, so I've tried to update because if you follow those instructions it will fail.

Just spell it normally without the space... Unknown as I've tried to type it in NotePad and copy it over... for some reason the space remains. There's probably a special character remaining.

I put in a marker not to put a space between the t and o.

Thanks for the heads up.

There is also a manual for DPP although it seems to lag one version back. It (3.11 July 2012) can be downloaded from http://support-sg.canon-asia.com/con...300744701.html (external link). I've attached page 77 from that manual which discusses further the upload process to Photoshop

I need to ask, why would a person want to use DPP if they have CS6 with Camera RAW 7.2 from Adobe?
RAW 7.2 seems much more improved than even Canon's own software!

G1x, EOS 1Dx, EOS 1D Mk IV, ef 8-15mm f4L,
ef 16-35mm f2.8L II, ef 24-70mm f2.8L II, ef 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II,
Sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sport
*** PS 6, ACR 9.3, Lightroom 6.5 ***

DPP for Canon handles noise far better than ACR, LR4 or CS6. The noise pixels are at least half the size and are a ton softer. Once the noise has been handled then open the file in CS6 and do all you editing. In fact DPP noise handling is superior to all plugins.

As stated, it isn't about the UI it is about the output and DPP output is very good. If I don't use Capture One Pro I use DPP for something that would otherwise be a waste.

Actually the easiest way if you have the 32 bit registry already there, rename the 12.0 to 60.0 and change the paths in the 4 places that it is listed.
Basically you are turning your 32 bit pointers into the 64bit pointers, which is what I did. You do not have to remove anything from the 32bit reg once you have renamed everything.

That fixed it, many thanks bw!
