The close up corp usually works, but I would pick an image where the focus is right on and the head is sharper.

Here is less of a crop, but the wing tip on the feft is missing a little, feel free to crop away. : )

If it were just a plain blue sky it might be more noticeable. But with the trees there it masks that the wing tip was cropped. In my opinion, that image is much more pleasing than the one you originally posted.

You have enough wingtips remaining to take them from the other wing. Even when you clipped the wings, I like that image much better than your crop.

The crop absolutely works, they both work. Though in the crop it could stand to be a bit sharper, the eye and the look in the eye is pretty intense. So for the intent of showing the look that is there, it does make it more of a in your face thing. Having said that the blunt end to the wings does not help, the first thing you see is that look in the eye, when I first looked at it, all I saw was that look, heh until I read the other comments it did not matter to me, I have to agree with some I don't know what other crop than this one you could have gotten unless you went vertical and left the wings out completely as you have a great amount of depth, thats a lot of real estate from the head to the tail, I can see the little ends on the tail feathers with wear, pretty good for such a length. After all this babbling, the crop works for me but I like the full version better even with that little miss on the tip. That eye is what makes it work

Here you go Tom. I took a lot of the suggestions and rolled them all in to one.

Chuck

Nice Chuck! I really was not sure what to do with it. I liked the picture, but trash all shots that cut off any part of the bird

Do you still have the original uncropped version? If so, put it on your smugmug site and I'll show you what I would do with it if it were one of mine. Of all that have been posted I like the first one you put up but the crop is too tight and the pic isn't sharp enough for that tight of a crop.

Chuck

Everyone has their opinion.....Go with what you like its your image not theirs or ours. For me and photographing birds eye contact is important, and when they are looking back at you.......pretty cool in my book.

A little L goes a long way.

Loved you images regarding chat of osprey with the bald guy. Very impressive. You are lucky to have these many bird of prey ready to be your models.
