I had this happen to two images a year ago and it happened again a couple of weeks ago. They are RAW images that I open in DPP. Have you ever seen this and does anyone have a clue to what causes it? Both times it happened to two consecutive images. Thanks for any info.

Corrupted raw file.

Can be caused for instance during transfer from card to computer, or by a faulty card/failing hard drive.

Do you have a backup of the cr2? Or is it perhaps still on the card?

I still have the recent one on the card. Is there anything I can do in case this happens again? In both instances I had other similar images that were ok so it did not bother me too much, but I would hate for this to happen on an one of a kind image. Thanks for the help.

Throw away your old card and buy a new one. Memory is cheap, memories are only once.

I have many cards, so I'll just dump that one. Thanks!

I've had this happen a couple of times in the past. Image in camera was fine but image on computer looked like yours. It was a transfer issues because I was able to copy the image (instead of downloading) from the card and paste in a folder with no issue.

I hope that is your problem.

Sounds like you may be skipping a step in the troubleshooting process. Have you determined that it is a problem with the card for sure? If not you should try and see if you can get the image off of the card again or perhaps try getting it off the card a different way (as mentioned in post #7).

I am going to look into that.
