Other for me. When there is a significant technology benifit (better ISO performance for instance) and I can save enough to afford it. $$$ is my issue it takes me a long time to save enough to add to my kit!

I voted other, but it was nearly as you put it, the 'newest big thing' . I had a 5D2 and a 7D and desperately wanted the IQ and low light capability of the 5D and the AF system on the 7D rolled into one. I got the 5D3 not just as the newest big thing but because it had all the abilities I was after and a lot more besides.

It was a toss up between the 5D3 and the 1D4 but I found the 5D3 at a great price from a UK supplier offering a 3 year warranty and I don't regret my choice in any way. I've since used a 1D4 a couple of times and it's not as comfortable in my hands as the 5D3 and I have a choice with the 5D3 of using it gripped or not depending on what I'm shooting. The shutter count rated at 150K was about the last thing I was looking at. Hit it hard and it goes within 3 years then I'm covered, use it to my average and it should last me 8-10 years by which time I'll probably be ready for an upgrade anyway.

My updates/upgrades are based on new features or improved abilities that I may want. Shutter actuations are part and parcel of taking photos; worrying about them is like worrying about wearing out the tires on a car.

If you would have put ISO capabilities and AF system in your poll, you would have your answer....shutter count would only come into play if you were looking to p/u a particular model and wanted to get it for less $$$ than a current list price.

I voted other. I only upgrade when a new camera would give me a considerable advantage over putting that same money towards a lens.
