just like to share my experience with adjusting the AF beam that was hopeless
aiming outside of the lens Centre AF point.

the way to open up YN-622 radio trigger has been explained nicely here.
The thing that caught me was the 5th short screw that was covered with
some sticker.

Without this work done here by Cliveboy, i wouldn't have gotten it opened.

Once the 5th screw is released, the covers come off nicely.
The laser is held by 2 small screws and has a bottom plastic support.
Its this plastic support that comes handy when you need to adjust the laser.

I inserted something springy below this plastic support so that it pushes the laser up.
You will need to loosen the 2 screws holding the laser first.
THEN, using this springy support, you can then very slowly adjust the laser
by tightening the 2 screws.
This will raise or lower the laser by just that tiny bit.

You will need to go back and forth testing your lens at various distance
to see how much to tighten or loosen.

Dont worry about the case screws cause as long as you dont use too much force,
they come off and go in rather easily.
MAKE sure you use the correct size phillips screw driver. Think its the smallest size.

have fun.

i would like to add
the AF pattern is dots rather than lines like that of canon.

In some distance and zoom positions, the AF zone end up in between the dots, ie,
as good as no AF beam.

that's the problem of using dots.

MAKE sure you use the correct size phillips screw driver. Think its the smallest size.

It's a Phillips #0 screwdriver - there are #00 and #000 also available in even modest "Jeweller's screwdriver" sets. Incidentally, the 0.375" case screws are for the corners of the case and the 0.25" is for the centre. Removing the centre scew also auto-destroys the membrane date-of-manufacture label and voids the warranty.

Other odd bits over the decades, simply to get the job done - not merely to polish and brag about cos I'm too mean to buy the polish!

Here (external link) are a few pics showing access to and configuration of the laser AF assist source (and one or two other things too).

I received 4 YN-622C triggers recently. Thus far it looks like three of the units have an alignment issue. I hope to try the units on a different body to see if the problem is slop in the hotshoe or if it is truly the YN-622C units. With a 40D all four units were putting up a pattern that was high and to the left of the center auto focus point of the camera. My first impression would give the units a good grade, with a quick test with two flashes. Today I should be able to exercise the units a little more in terms of how they behave with some studio lights.

Regards,

110yd

It's lovely. Thanks for showing the steps of how it was created.

Thanks to both of you. I have one that I bought just to use as an AF assist that has this problem. I'll try to fix it tonight.

I just tested all four of my triggers and 3 of them are aiming slightly higher-left to the center, but still usable. I notice one of the red beam pattern is much bigger than the other 3.
