My preference would be for less space to the right of the baby's head on those shots. As to whether I prefer the color or B&W? I like the color one because in the B&W, my attention alternates between the baby's clothes (brightest in photo) and the background (darkest in photo). In the color, the baby's face is the reddest, although the green gloves take away some attention.

Agreed with frugivore, there's more contrast on the clothes than on the face.

Thanks for the guidance guys. I'll play around with the sliders a bit more, I appreciate the input!

Personally, I'd make the mitts blue in PS, crop a little tighter and lighten the face to draw the attention. You've got some good options to work with though. I'd also find a way to highlight mom's hand underneath.

Here is what I did quickly with snapseed on my iPad. Gets at what I was thinking, but again, just my two cents.

Careful with the sun-glasses that the mom has... I had them slip and and startle (no injuries) the kid and thereby ruining a session ;-)a

The space doesn't bother me either, I think that the baby and the hands are 2/3 of the image therefore there is just some negative space for scale. I do see the idea that the clothes are "brighter" than the focus which should be the baby's face and the hands. I also don't like that the background has that silver pole which I fixed after I posted this in CS5.

When I change the exposure, or brightness of the baby's face it gets either too red or washed out. I think that i need to spend more time with it and come up with something but its not a bad point to start with. Thanks for the encouragement.

I usually prefer black and white but I like the color as well.
