Went out to the backyard to enjoy a cup of coffee and saw this cloud formation in an otherwise completely clear sky. I ran inside to get my camera - took me about 45 seconds - and when I came back out, they had almost disappeared (they were thicker and puffier at first). They did so a minute later :( .

These clouds appear to be waning lenticular clouds formed at the top of air being bounced over a ridge or similar far upwind ...

Nice. We get clouds similar to these occasionally but it is rare. If memory serves they are created by winds blowing over the Rocky's in a particular manner and we are probly 500 miles away. Very interesting.

Nice shot Tom. The intense blue sky sets it off.

Thanks everyone for comments and lessons on clouds names!
Indeed, I've seen this kind of clouds a couple of times in my life and to me were a rare sight worth capturing...I think I'm gonna hang it on the wall :o

Well, perhaps these ones just decided to be part of the "snowbirds" that come to this flat and sunshined city of Miami :)
