I expect I will 'upgrade' from my new 7D to a 7DmkII at some point. Before then I will get a full frame, possibly a 5DmkII, maybe a mkIII if I hold off long enough and its price drops enough. (6D doesn't interest me, and while a 1Dx would be nice, not seeing that happening anytime soon.)

Personally I want a good crop and full frame, because they do different things for me. I'm sure I would spend most of my time with one or the other, but will still have lots of use for both.

The 7DmkII will be something I replace my 7D with in 3-5 years, after it is getting up there in age and will likely require a decent bit of cash to refurbish anyway.

I've been using my 7d for about 2 1/2 years, mostly for action sports, with my only complaint being the high ISO performance. I'm starting to do more night and indoor sports and the ISO noise is not cutting it. I'm about 90% committed to upgrading to a 1d4, but was hoping that a future 7dII might offer a significant improvement in high ISO performance. Either way, I need a better camera for low light

regards,
Dave Suitor

I am curious to see how many people would stick with the 7D series given the current trend of more affordable FF cameras.

I still like the APS-C because I enjoy shooting wildlife and prefer the pixels on target since I am limited to 400mm (due to not being able to afford a super tele). I probably wouldnt upgrade unless there was a proven ISO performance increase of at least a stop (in RAW) in ISO performance. What are everyone else's thoughts?

It's nice to fantasize, but given the fact that the 7D has just gotten the most extensive firmware update that Canon has ever issued, Its highly unlikely that a 7D II will be available anytime soon.

Um, no because my new 7D is due to arrive tomorrow. :D I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with it for quite a while.

Here is a question: Why do you want a full frame 7D? Personally I will always want a high res, high quality crop camera for sports/wildlife/etc, where I'm going to want telephoto, and possibly be cropping tighter anyway.

I agree. There are times where a FF body shines and times that a crop body shines. There is a need for both. We pretty much have the FF variant right now with the MkIII. We need a strong crop as well. The 7D is a fantastic camera but it can use an upgrade. The one area Canon is getting smokes is in DR and pattern noise. A 7D with a new sensor that addresses these two issues would be a welcome addition and would cause me to upgrade. If all we get is the same-old sensor tech we have now with a few small feature improvements, I'll pass. Canon, get off you colective a$$es and fix your sensors.

Not sure, but I think watt100 was kidding.

Why stop at FF, why not wish for a medium format 7D?

Large format! For $899, and all the EF lenses magically work, and the EF-S works with an adaptor?
