I didn't mean the 35mm focal length is boring...i meant my 35mm sample shot was kind of boring, you know, subject right in the middle, boring background etc. I guess that's mainly down to my skills :(

Having said that, I do prefer my 50mm more than the 35mm. It's tighter, I don't need to get as close and more capable to blur out the background....

I kinda like those pictures you posted to be honest. To each his own I guess.

Rittrato,

I often make the comment that the 35L is boring :)

If you look at an entire folder filled with 35L photos it all looks the same in perspective. Normal looking perspective. .

But you can say the same with almost any primes I believe. If you use nothing but 24L then people may get tired of looking at that distortion, if its 85 then viewers may get tired of the same tight perspective, so on and so forth.

Not jojo2fast again

I had some heated discussion on his flickr stream not long ago....his whole stream is done with one lens which i totally do not understand. Repetitive perspective and background, you know sun always behind the models

I honestly think he gets so popular are partly because he has good looking model to play with who knows how to pose....

I love his work but to be honest, I agree with you. He always work with beautiful models I guess props to him anyway because these models pay him to get his signature look.

Yes true. However if you look at the perspective of a commonly used point/shoot camera it typically has the "look" what we commonly see with our own eyes.

If you look at photos taken with a 24L and fill the frame similar to a 35L's frame. You'll note the background on the 24mm to have a different visual effect. The average person (not into photography) will probably be more drawn to this unique perspective even though they probably cannot pinpoint the difference.

Subject matter always makes a difference. Lens choice is also another tool to capture images with a different "look". This is one reason why I love using the 16-35Lmk2. I get a huge variety of perspectives in one lens. For safe looking group shots I'll use the 35mm range.
