Nice shot, but we did not need a pecker shot from someone named "dangles".

Ted don't forget the Red-Bellied Woodpecker that Joel posted on page 1. Yeah...missing a Northern Flicker as well as several other woodpeckers previously viewed on this forum ( Ladder-Backed and Acorn woodpeckers come to mind as well as some exotic ones). Thats a nice little Juvenile Yello-Bellied Sapsucker and I do find them in The Encyclopedia of North American Birds where they are described as a Long winged, delicate woodpecker. I have some Sapsucker shots I can post here...maybe. But I do get Stan's point:lol: Anyway....I will put two ( not very good) Northern Flicker shots ( Yellow Shafted Flicker) which is described as a large broad- winged, long-tailed woodpecker. Boy can they ever do a number on ant hills:D First is a female in freefall and the second is a male looking for them tasty ants.

Gary, you beat me by a few minutes posting a Flicker shot! I'll post mine anyways. You can clearly see the Yellow shafts on this one...

You guys have some amazing peckers indeed,.

Since were sharing,.
Now I don't like to brag,. but some of you have peckers that are positively tiny.. mine may be hairy,. but it is at least 8.5" long... ;)

Taken this Novemebr in the Northern tundra of Quebec...

Of course mine does not compare to some of you that are packing peckers in the 16" range

Its been about a week and no responses to CDS's challenge?

I don't see any hard working peckers here no matter what size they are. And no, flying peckers don't count because they aren't pecking. So here is one that is not only the largest of peckers but also one that is actualy pecking and doing so very seriously ( notice the concentration in the eyes). Pileated woodpecker...about the size of a crow and sounds like he is hitting the tree with an axe.

Well the peckers have "RISEN" from the dead. Just like them; a little rest....:o

Found this one in action. Notice the chip of bark flying above it's head.
