Well at least in the Atlanta area, this week I have noticed about 4 5dmk II bodies going for around $1200-1300 on craigslist. This has to be by far the cheapest I have ever seen a 5dmk II body used. What does this say for the used market.. Bad time for selling maybe? Was thinking about a upgrade but I may hold out and see how the prices continue to fall.

Fellow POTN memebers, What are your thoughts?

I think no matter what people say about the new 6D if it's better or worse than the 5D2 it's still a new model and it'll be had for 2100 or a tad less. everyone is dumping. everyone has to have the "latest" doesn't matter if the gains are minimal. Look at the apple fanboys.

I've seen a bunch of 5d2's go for 1400 lately.

me personally. I'd trade my 7D w/ grip & 30mm for a low milage 5D2 in a heartbeat.

Considering you can get a refurb for under $1600 via CLP they would need to drop a bit more to tempt me. I've been watching the prices drop but so far none have hit the market locally.

Occasionally, you can get a new or almost new for 1550. Prices might drop even more once the 6D gets into people's hands and the Holiday sale. From a price proposition, I think the 6D is still the camera to have since you can use much cheaper SD cards versus expensive Compact Flash memory, not to mention that the performance would probably be more modern.

You can find them for $1550 new now, so used pricing should definitely be lower than $12-1300.
I'm waiting until the xmas sales, and will pick one up at around $1,000.

That would be a sweet deal for sure, but how does that pricing effect the used 7d market because at 1k you enter the 7d price point.

Apples and oranges. Most people who are into a 5DII probably not affected by the 7D and vice versa.

The 7d is three years old now. It will soon be around 7-800 used like the 50d's were for a while. The crop bodies also just don't hold value like the FF bodies. I mean used 7d's are already all over our forum for 895.00 shipped. When it costs roughly 1050.00 for a refurb it only makes sense that a used non-guaranteed 7D should go for a few hundred less than a refurbished model with a 90 day guarantee.

I would buy a new 5D2 for $1799 before I even consider a used one for any more than $1300. And that would have to be immaculate, under 20,000 shots, and include the box and all accessories. That 12 month factory warranty is worth something.

I noticed the same thing on ebay and on local MN craigslist ads. They are selling for $1300-1400 used. I was about 4 months too early. $1600 was the avg price then.

I've noticed the downward spiral in prices as well, but with the new prices as low as they are right now I would suggest buying new to most people. I'm putting up my 50D soon, but the MKii will stay.

The 7d is in its own niche. I will probably pick up a 5dII myself when the price point hits the $1200 mark. The 6d does not factor in for me for a couple of reasons. One the 5dII uses the same batteries and memory cards as the 7d. Same reason I had the 5dc + 40d combo. The other is viewfinder. While it is minor the 6d is a less % than the 5dII. The 7d & 1d series are the only ones that are 100%. A feature very important to me. I'm sure other existing camera owners have similar thoughts.

I think prices are dropping on everything because nothing is selling unless it is a bargain. Something that is a fair price gets passed over because a) fewer buyers, b) people are more selective with their spending. Probably see more of a drop by the end of next month.

well I definitely screwed up by trading my 7d for a 5d mkii. The 5d MKII was vauled at $1550-$1700 mark a couple months ago. Ridiculous how fast the prices dropped on me. Blah >:O
