I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III, and I keep a battery grip on the body all the time. I have about 5 lenses, but don't always travel with all 5. A 16-15, 24-105, 70-200 (the F4), 100 Macro, and a 50mm.

I also have some accessories, and occasionally lug along the 600 EX-RT flash. I currently have a Lowepro Compu-Daypack, which is a decent bag, however, with the 5D and grip the camera compartment is VERY tight. Also, when placing lenses in the upper compartment, it only has one zipper, so opening the bag is kind of a risky procedure (lens could fall out).

I've looked online at the Tamrac and Lowepro offerings, and some seem nice but I'm not a huge waist-belt fan. I'd really like to stick to a backpack, and ideally like the idea of a small amount of space for day trips, walking around the city, etc.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

You might take a look at the LOWEPRO Slingshot 202 AW. Not a backpack, but perfect for walking around. Slips over the shoulder and allows you to sling it around and unzip the area that holds the camera.

Thanks for the welcome :)

That does look like a neat bag.

I have a SlingShot 200. It fit my 40D with grip, which is pretty close in size.
