This weekend while visiting my sister, she had surprised the family by booking a photographer to take some shots. However, the photographer couldn't make it and I got volunteered. With very little experience taking photos of people, and having to be in the photos myself, I really struggled.

The weather made it tricky, as I found the overcast sky far too harsh. Additionally, I am just starting to work with Apple's Aperture, so my processing skills aren't spectacular. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Removed due to re-upload with corrected coloring.

I think you did a pretty good job but I think they are all under exposed & they have a deep yellow cast on my computer. If you want to turn on you Image Editing OK sign (in your user CP), i will be happy to play around with one of two.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Lovely setting and nice photos!

I'm no expert, but a little fill flash would have worked wonders, I would think.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Thanks. I turned on "Image Editing OK". I may have altered the white balance too much.

They are very pretty! I would definitely mess with the white balance a little more and if you're not happy with that, go into the levels brick and work on each cannel separately until you get the look. Aperture has three white balance adjustments now too so try each one. Also try to adjust the green to pink slider towards pink to reduce the yellows and greens skin tones. I usually calm things down by taking the left-most red channel and pushing it a little to the right to get pretty tones. On the faces if they are too dark use the brushes with either a curves adjustment or the dodge tool. I luv the brushes in aperture! I'd also really work the background colors with some brushes too, like saturation or vibrancy and within the colors brick.

Very nice posing, but fill flash would help a lot.

Thanks Maureen. I do notice the difference, and will work to correct my balancing.

I corrected the coloring to remove the yellowish tinge, removed the old photos from Flickr and re-uploaded.

I would lighten this last posted image... and decrease the contrast on it. gives it a nice soft feel and lightens her face and the eyes better.
