you should definitely tidy up the halo in the second one. it's too good a photo to leave like that.

I don't know, John, I like both shots. They are very dramatic and convey the mood very effectively.

john - try turning the radius down on the Highlights when you do a shadow/highlight adjustment. Using 0 or 1 will get rid of the halo around the edges. They are nice images regardless.
