Where to begin...

I have to appologize for all of my ignorance and questions, as this is a toatlly new hobby for me. I picked up a Canon EOS Rebel XTi with a Tamron Lense from a guy in my Jeep club and so far this is awesome. Not sure I have taken a picture to be proud of, but you have to start somewhere right?

Just started reading threads, and it seems that there is a wealth of knowledge and experience here. Hopefully I can absorb some of the everything and take some decent pictures.

Here are a couple I have so far.

Pretty lame I know, but Hopefully I will get better.

Lee

Hi Lee and welcome,

You're right, this is a great place to learn.

If you're new to the hobby and to POTN, make sure you check out Ben's Newbie Guide which is a great wrap up of the fundamentals.

The best thing you can do at this stage is to read heaps, shoot heaps and ask heaps of questions. As far as subjects go, it sounds like the Jeep club will probably give you plenty of good shooting opportunities!

As an aside, your photos #1 and #3 would both benefit from some increased contrast and sharpening (some terms for you to Google!). #2 appears to have missed focus.

Thank you!

Steeping away from the Auto focus feature is taking some getting used to, Weird thing is though when I am on the AV setting it is only B&W? Just excited to begin this education

The auto setting (on the dial), does not mean auto-focus. Embrace auto-focus :)

Not sure about Av only showing B&W. If you just got the camera, it's probably worth just resetting to default settings:

Auto-focus isn't the same as the green full auto mode. You should be using auto-focus, you shouldn't be using the green full auto mode.

You have the camera set to Monochrome picture style. There are several styles available including Standard, Portrait (improves skin tones), Landscape (improves greens/blues), Neutral, Faithful and Monochrome.

See page 63 of your manual for how to change this setting.

I just can't believe you still have "hobby money" after how much you obviously put into your rig. Drooling over those tube fenders!!
