I cycle along some wonderful coast line a few times a week on a road bike and would love to be able to take along both my camera and a medium to large tripod.

Does anyone have suggestions on a sports back pack that has hydration and the ability to support a tripod?

I ride almost daily 20-25 miles, I also take photos. When I'm on the bike and I want a photo, I shoot it with my IPhone or I remember the place/time of day and return with a camera.

That's a practice some will find useful.

In my situation I'm already there. The light and sky are perfect and would prefer to have the camera & tripod with me.

Returning later might mean less than perfect conditions.

Personally I would try to come up with an alternative to the tripod.

Unless you are going for long exposures, the string/washer support (external link) works well. Or a monopod. Or a beanbag.

Fence posts have also been known to work pretty well as well

I do this at least twice a week. I have the water in a holder on my frame. I carry either my bag with lens/body or just the body with a lens over my neck going towards one side of the body. I carry the tripod with a tripod strap over my neck going the other way. So basically I have a tripod hanging on one side and a bag/lens on the other. I usually carry filters/shutter release in cargo pockets. This is the strap I use.

Its tough, but I like the extra challenge in carrying gear this way and its so much easier than taking the train and walking 1-2 miles to a spot and possibly missing good light.

Velcro straps hold the tripod below the top tube. Camera, lens, remote and filters go in a sling pack. Works fine for me.

I brought an S100 for taking with me on the bike. I usually put it in my pocket because my underseat bag is full of tools and a spare tube. I have often thought about just throwing my body and one lens in a small backpack, but the S100 does all I want anyway.
