My wife and I were driving home last night and a deer ran out in front of us and I frigging nailed it. This morning I went back to look at it a bit better (I hit it at 10:00 last night) and noticed the back hooves came right off the bone... OUCH! That had to hurt... GOOD!

Everyone is OK. The car may be totaled though... Adjuster coming out one of these days to look at it.

Ouch! Glad that everyone is OK. Looks like a pretty hard impact on the car. I see deer almost every morning driving to work in the dark around Lake Lanier. Hit one a couple of years ago and was glad I was driving my truck. He just bounced off and it bent my bumper down a little. Headlights are a little loose and the plastic grille is all cracked but it's a 13-year old truck so I don't worry about it.

I have lived in deer high density regions and I have tagged deer in Ohio and Tennessee and all of them were not injured but just bumped as I slowed down to not hit them. One jumped the fence entering a Kroger parking lot and a whole herd chose to cross the road one at a time as I was on my way home from a 2nd shift job. Deer are multiplying at a scary pace.

I guess because the deer damaged the car. I see it as sad.

Yeah. The graphic nature of this image (definitely NOT something I was expecting to see on these forums) plus a seemingly lighthearted "good" just doesnt seem to go together.... I hit a deer once and it flew in the air. I never felt any malice towards it; he didnt PLAN on ruining my car.

I think the driver above probably ruined the deer's day just a bit more than the deer ruined his. I would feel quite bad for the deer. Vehicles are insured.

Actually, if this deer had lived he'd be in a lot of pain so that's part of the reason why I said "GOOD".

Also, it's sad because these animals don't know any better and jump from the woods into traffic. I had little time to brake. If I'd had time to brake then maybe I could have missed him.

It's just a pain now. We only have one other car and we're having to pay extra money now for a rental car. Insurance is only paying 80% up to $500. The rest I have to pay. Plus, if they total the car then I have to take time off of work to look for another car and GEE... THAT'S always fun when you're strapped for cash.

All I can say is that there aren't enough days in hunting season to keep these animals from jumping in front of cars these days. It's a good thing this thing didn't come through the windshield and impale my wife's heart or mine with it's antler... Ever think of that?

These things are dangerous to motorists and need to be controlled before they kill someone. Human life is much more important than a deer's life. Sorry all you animal lovers out there but it's the truth.

If you notice, the bulk of the damage is too the hood which means the front end of the car was tilted down enough to not cause minimal damage to the bumper (The airbags did not deploy) So the deer hit the hood mostly... So I did try to stop/slow down when I saw him but it happened too quickly.

Another part of this story is... My wife hit a deer in April with this same car. Insurance paid for a new hood, grill, head light, labor and anything that was not visible but damaged under the hood. So this car essentially took out 2 deer (Duly crowned "The Deer Slayer" if it survives this accident).

Before that, my wife hit a deer in her 2008 Nissan Maxima. Airbags went off and insurance totaled the car so this car you see here replaced the Maxima. The car she had before that also hit a deer. Clipped the rear legs but that car was drive-able but needed repairs.

So for those of you crying over this deer, have a deer total 3 or 4 of your cars and then come back here and tell us how much you love those deer. :)

I love deer to so long as they're grazing in my back yard and not running out into traffic causing havoc to motorists.

Dang! I am glad you and the family are okay. The rut is starting to kick in so the next month will be a little crazy. I am already seeing a dramatic increase in road kills in just the past few days. It will only get worse as November approaches. I always told the wife and kids never watch the one that ran in front of you, always look out for the one behind it. No one wants to see a deer get hurt but like you said it is better than a human getting hurt. Fortunately for the deer it was a quick death and there was no suffering. Too bad you couldn't save the backstraps though!

In Tennessee you would swear the deer have calendars and they all seem to head into the state and national parks within minutes of the opening of deer season.Someplace I have images of a largish herd of piebald and albino deer within the boundaries of Dale Hollow park on opening day/evening. I guess they know they are very visible to hunters.

You're right. Hunting season becomes high auto insurance claims season.

I love the follow up interview: "I had no clue the deer crossing signs were for us".

I really hope that this was just a practical joke and she really isn't that stupid.
