That said, between the f/4s, this gives the Nikon the edge, it focuses closer than just about every other 70-200 on the market

MFD is 1m, the closest comparison is the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 which is .95m... MM should be in the 1:3.6-ish range i believe...

Canon's 2.8L II is 1.2m (1:4.8) the f/4L IS is 1.2m (1:5)

I see the Nikon being an excellent flower lens especially coupled with a 105 f/2.8G VR

I think part of the issue with Nikon's focus breathing are MFD can be addresses with the extra MP of the D800. The perspective won't change, of course.

I've owned both too, they're both very good but I don't see one as being better than the other.

Not as extensive as the post from FM but it is ok I guess. Looking forward to see some "real" world sample images and not bricks, or color charts that dpreview use for their tests.
