6D worse than 5D Mk II?

Based on the specs and Canon's history, does anyone think that the 6D's video and photographs will be of lesser quality than the 5D Mark II?

I'm extremely anxious to purchase my first DSLR. I'll be kicking myself if I go with the 5D Mk II and then see a comparison revealing that rolling shutter has been fixed with the 6D and it also does noticeably better in low light.

Difficult to say for sure, but from the looks of this video the 6D does really well in low light and the scenes toward the end seem to indicate that rolling shutter has also been improved.

It's really just guess work until someone gets hold of some cameras and takes them for a test drive.

I wouldn't be too concerned about video and image quality. There have been a number of incremental improvements to each since the 5DII was introduced four years ago.

I'm mostly wondering about the AF system. It's a new design and an unknown... But doesn't sound all that different from the 5DII's.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Personally I think the 5DII still has better IQ then the III. I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I have a 4k usd budget and after looking at images for two weeks, I think I am going to grab the MII and some extra glass. I like the III focus system but I want the best IQ possible. I had a 7D and will miss the focus a bit but I think I can manage to focus and recompose just fine.

5DII is old and has had firmware updates its dialed in good now. Im sure 6D and 5D MII will get better with age as well.

What are your thoughts on low light IQ from the 6D's sample videos/images? A lot of what I shoot is still going to be fast paced action, so I'll continue utilizing GoPros in that regard. Consequently I have a feeling that roughly 50% of my shots will be taking place in the evenings or during low light situations.

If that happens, there's no need to kick yourself. Instead, sell your 5D2 and buy the 6D. Easy! And with the way the market is, used sells for about the same as new (even more, oftentimes on eBay), so you won;t even lose anything on the switch.

Why are you treating this as if this will be your first and last body? The 6D is meant to replace the 5D as an entry level full frame camera. The 5DMKII is meant for a more experienced enthusiast/hobbyist. Purchase the camera that is the most user friendly for your level of experience and worry about the bells and whistles last.

Hi, I'd be interested in hearing more about the better IQ of the 5DII over the 5DIII being a current owner of the 5DII.

I've not heard this mentioned before.

Look through the forums, and watch some side by side comparisons on youtube, then judge for yourself. 5D III photos look more like 7D photos. Seems like the IQ is good but it lacks just a tad behind the 5D MII.


I just pulled the trigger on a 5D MII and 24-105 kit @ B&H, it will be here tomorrow I cant wait. $400 off right now was to tempting. Basically got new for refurb price. I originally was set to go refurb through CLP, even bought a broken PnS. Now I got enough $ left for some glass and flash.

wait until you see the banding patterns on the 5d2 vs the 5d3. Purposely underexpose an image by 3 stops on a 5d2 and then bring it up.

How about I don't underexpose and then it wont be a problem. Sounds like a great plan to me.

The only thing I like about new bodies coming out is the old "inferior" bodies drop in price..I never liked being the guinea pig of the elctronic world.

Ummm I find the opposite. I have been working extensively with the mkIII files and find them to be easier to work with compared to the mkII. The files seem to pull more detail out of the highlights and shadows. High ISO performance is also a little better (about 1/2-3/4 of a stop better).

Could you point me in the direction where you saw a better file from the MKII vs MKIII?

$71.20 Im gone next week so I want to play with it this week, and I may take it with me next week, will be taking my son to Omaha for surgery, good scenery out the window, and a possible zoo trip if he feels like it after its over. Probably will be in the hospital for most of the week.

I agree on the high iso, but up to 3200 I think II wins.

Pull up a 5D MII unite and a 5D MIII Unite and spend hours browsing and make your own decision. Maybe you will come to a different conclusion. I have spent 20+ hours comparing images and watching side by side videos on youtube. I think the II is beter low iso and III is better at extrem iso.
