I use a reversed 28mm prime for macro and it does not like to cooperate with extension tubes. Instead I want to sandwich some screw on macro filters between the lens and the camera body to gain some magnification. will this work properly? I need to know before purchasing because I want to get some of the old sigma APO coated filters off of ebay and once I purchase I doubt I will be able to return the filter. thanks

Seems a slightly odd request as you should get about 3:1 magnification with just the lens reversed directly onto the body with a 28mm lens. I suspect that if you try using any extension between the body and the lens then the focus point will be on or behind the the front of the reversed lens.

Thanks Brian that makes sense. Any tips on how I could attach diopters to the front instead of sandwiching? The forward facing end is an old pentax k mount.

Can't really think of anything that would help that you could buy. I did use to use cyclinders of camping mat held together with duct tape that you make to grip the lens body but stick out enough to allow you to insert another lens in the end.
I don't think trying to stick a diopter filter (assuming this is what you mean) onto the front of a reversed 28mm lens is worth the trouble- it won't give much increase in magnification.
