I am waiting to pull the trigger on a new 5D Mk. II. It is currently $1799.00 locally. Any thoughts whether it will go lower in the future or around Christmas?

Seeing as how I bought mine new for $2k last Christmas (before the mark iii was out), I'd say it'll temporarily drop to $1500 or less for the holidays but that's just speculation.

If we're talking really long term, you'll be able to pick it up for $100 or so in a decade or two.

It's $1,699 on B&H.

Price will keep on dropping until the new(old model) bodies are sold out....then it's buy the 5DII refurb or 2nd hand.

The 5DII R&D costs are paid for now...so it's what a company can make profit wise out of the camera.

At $1,699, the 5DII remains a bargain given what it can do considering this camera had a major impact on cameras as we know it.

Even though the 5DII is a bargain right now....I'm still waiting to see what it will do price wise since I've already owned one.

:)

I would say the price now is as low as it goes, and possibly it will go up again. I just bought ne from B&H with 24-105 kit and it says the $400 off expires in 2 days. Bought mine yesteday and it came before noon today, I love this compared to my 7D. I don't miss the 7D a bit.

Sorry, doubt that.

It might go up temporarily but the 5DII is on it's way out.

$1500 is my guess for BF / early 2013 also.

Well... at some point it will become an antique and the price will go back up... the Canon F-1 currently sells for about $200-350 on the used market which was about its launch price in the 1970s. That was relatively a lot of money back in the 70s, though.

I'm going to wait a couple of months and see it it gets to $1499 or $1599 in Canada. That will push me over the edge! A heck of a bargain! :D

'technology' and 'antique' and 'price' usually means a plummet.

what's the price of a 486-based PC these days?

considering there are deals popping up now for the mark3 aroudn 2800-2900, I'm thinking by Christmas there will be a few 2500 deals on the 5dmk3.
I"d think the mk2 would be 1k less, so the $1500 mark will be hit by year end. There is always the used market. also

---------------Camera, Lens, Flash stuff.. but still wanting more

I think that the bigger question is "How much longer will the stock of 'new' 5D Mk2s last?" Canon has prolly ceased production, so it is just a matter of time until all of the 'new' 5D Mk2s run out. Maybe before Christmas?

It was $1,549 new on eBay from a legit dealer a few weeks ago. My guess is that will be Canon's Christmas sale price as well.

Very true. Look at the first Canon DLSRs - now under $400 for units that originally cost $8K new. They are still very capable cameras.

Equipment list - According to the wife - "how many more lenses do you need? Yet another camera?" ???

I wonder this too.. I want to rebuy my 5D2. I sold mine locally at $1550- a little below what it went for at the time (1600-1800). I'd be happy if I can buy one used at around 1400.
