2nd time shooting Rush...this shoot was a bit better in that we (only two other shooters!) had access to the full pit, as the 2010 shoot had a video camera/dolly set up that took the stage right half of the pit. that meant that there were no clear lines of sight to Neil Peart, due to his massive drum kit and excess of rack toms and cymbals.

The slight drag was that we only had the 1st two songs of their second set, which comprised their new record Clockwork Angels. I'm not a big Rush fan but I would have preferred to be shooting songs I liked (or at least was familiar with). A few other notes: there was a string ensemble but they were lined at the back of the stage, and not really visually obvious, at one point Neil's kit spun around in a circle, and at the beginning of the 1st song there were some fireworks that were set off (i caught the smoke trails, not the actual pyro part - see #2).

Nice set Tim. You actually got an expression out of Lifeson in 7. Geddy was the only one who showed any emotion on that stage when I shot them. Peart seems to have his face frozen in time. I don't think I have seen a pic of him on this tour with any other.

a friend of mine who has seen Rush play a ton said that during Neil's drum solo on this tour, he finally cracked a smile at one point.

Yeah, stupid me. I usually come up with a good plan for shows -- I find a song I dont really care about, head up, buy a shirt, hit the rest room and come back. Well, they happened to do the drum solo during that time. I was not pleased. I'm even less pleased that I missed a smile from Neil. That said, we had decent seats (like 5th row loge) about 2/3 of the way back, and a t-shirt cannon actually got a tshirt to a guy about three people in front of me. Just kind of fell on him, it was kind of funny, he wasn't expecting it.
