Have posted this in the G Series Forum but advised to put it here also.

Many people buy a G12 to go along with their main (probably DSLR kit). I want to keep my G12 but add another camera which would give me good telephoto zoom capbilities. I've ruled out buying a DSLR so probably looking at a bridge.

I've been thinking along the lines of an SX50 - do you think I will be happy with the results? Pretty open question I know, vbut would be grateful for your thoughts.

Thanks,
Al

If you are a canon guy looking for a large zoom, the SX50 would be the way to go,
especially due to the fact that it supports RAW format, unlike its predecessors.
Early reviews mention that its hard-to-believe x50 zoom's quality is not that bad.

Another option would be a compact zoom, such as the SX260 or Panasonic ZS20
but that's only if you can live with their 'small' x20 zoom ranges. I don't know the
SX260 personally, but I reviewed the ZS20 and loved it. No DSLR material, of course,
but much fun to use.

The problem is, in my opinion, that the G12 is a truly great camera and most other
compact cameras would come in as a disappointment in terms of ergonomics as well as
in image quality. If you don't care for RAW, then all their 1/2.3" CMOS sensors would
provide more or less the same JPG quality, not matching that of the G12's capabilities.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it looks very much as it will be the SX50. I'm going to wait a while to make sure no common faults arise with it before I buy one.

Thanks,
Al
