Oh how I know this horrid feeling so-so very well. My 24-70L got broken last week, I just got the estimate today but I don't believe them, seems to cheap. I don't think they fully looked it over at Canon well enough. My fear is the lens will return still not right.

Don't worry the feeling of wanting do die goes away in a good 4-5 days.

It's better that you never got to use it, I got to use mine now I loose all motivation to use my other lenses...

I kaNt sPeL...

I know some are wondering where my 85 1.2 L shots form this gift that was sitting under my tree. Well I have been super busy with work and just now have the guts to admit why there are no pics. I dropped it. Yep, took this gem out of the box. Went to mount it and my hands stopped working or something and it fell to the floor, front element first. NO af or anf focus. Off to canon serivce. :(

Ouch!!

Ooooh! OUCH! Talk about finishing the year with a whimper, not a bang! Sincerest condolances, and here's hoping Canon will courier it back to you Jan. 2 with an apology for the circuit board that wasn't installed right in the factory, and which was the real cause of the malfunction!

This would not be a good time to mention the Butterfingers bar I just ate....Ooops!!

J/K, Dante.... I am really sorry about that and hope you have it back in no time at all. I am waiting with bated breath to see what kind of photos you produce with it as I am coveting that lens as well as the 35mm.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Well, as most of you probably know, about two months ago or so I dropped my 1DSMKII on a concrete sidewalk. Since then, and after getting it back, for some reason I feel as if it is going to happen again.

Paranoia just sets in. I recently bought a pair of Lowepro shooter's gloves for 20 bucks from B&H. They have a very tacky palm to them and give a great grip on the camera and lenses.

When I dropped mine, Dante, I also could offer no explanation as to how it happened. One minute it was in my hand, the next second it was tumbling to the floor.

I feel for you. If you can, rest easy in knowing that Canon will make it as good as new. Hopefully it won't cost nearly as much as a new one to do so.

Happy new year anyway. Let us know when you get it back.

I hate seeing anybody dropping any nice equipment. Or even not-nice equipment. It seems like there's a rash of droppings lately. Maybe it's all the excitement over the triple rebates or something.

When you get it back, get some bubble wrap on that thing before you try to mount it again!

I bet that duck was quacking his little tail off! Feel for ya. Dropped an A-1 with a FD 50 f/1.4 on it one time. The A-1 took a beating and still works to this day. The lens did not fare to well.

Sorry to hear this, I am with you.:(

I think 85mm is prompt to have accident....because its shape, size, weight, etc....

I caught my 85mm half way dropping from 4' above the ground when I first time open the wrapping from B&H. The lens just fell out the Canon box by itself. My heart was sunk to the hell at that moment. I never though my reaction is so quite.

It’s not good that’s for sure, but let’s face it, you’ll get over it. In the great scheme of things (yada yada) it doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. I’ve not got that lens, but I have just as nice a lens, and I have stuff that's not worth more then a few quid, but are actually priceless to me and i could not replace. I would not get too upset about something that can be easily replaced;)

I don't know what good composition is.... Sometimes for me composition has to do with a certain brightness or a certain coming to restness and other times it has to do with funny mistakes. There's a kind of rightness and wrongness and sometimes I like rightness and sometimes I like wrongness. Diane Arbus

Thanks again guys. It sucks hard to not have this lens on and making you drool from its brillinace, however, its just a tool. I have dropped expensive tools before. I am over it, really. I am over it, really. I am over it, really. I am over it, really. I am over it, really. I am over it, really. I am over it, really. I am over it, really. (must keep repeating, in hopes of beleiving) I am over it, really.

Hey man, at least you're over it ;)

Just go buy another, I'll repair the broken one... :D

Joking aside, sorry. I do cool stuff like that all the time. I usually take things apart that shouldn't come apart or something equally as brilliant.
