I have been playing a bit with a set of extension tubes and found a worthy subject tonight. I know the image is low quality - hand held using a #3 tube and an 85/1.8 (I'm trying different lenses from my limited collection).

At any rate, I would really like to know what this thing is....it was large for a spider in the house. I did use an off camera flash and have done no other work on this image. We live in SW Washington state.

I am not a big fan of spiders. This one was in our guest bathtub and I wasn't about to try to get him/her to move around for me. The wife wanted an immediate execution of her capital punishment verdict.

Reluctantly. I was looking for something to put it in for release in the yard. The wife wanted it gone faster.....she won.

Thank you.

I did search my Audubon data base for the Pacific NW and found nothing. A search online resulted in questionable results at best.

Not sure what there is about spiders but even with my considerable size and weight advantage I would prefer they not be in the house...

I knew the spider for about one hour. The wife and I have been together for 46 years, 2 dating and 44 married.

I'll keep the wife.:D

Thanks Rick - I was pleased with it for what it was. All that white in the bath tub bounced the light around nicely. One out of six had acceptable focus - extension tubes are tough hand held.

And to be perfectly honest I've read about jumping spiders and didn't want to find out this was one of them so trying to get close and keep my distance was an issue.

Most of the jumpers in the US, that I'm aware of, are pretty tiny. All of the species I've encountered have bodies that measure from about 1/8" - 3/16". And I've never heard of anyone being bitten by one.

I have had 'em jump on the camera on several of occasions, though :D
