My aunt is going to Portland next week. She has researched several waterfalls and selected the falls she will visit within driving distance. My question is, are there other majestic landscape opportunities around Portland? Say within reach of local bus/train routes? Thanks for any help! Oh yeah, see will be visiting during the week.

It sure is! She has that waterfall at the top of her list. Thanks!

Lots of other waterfalls along I-84 en route from Portland to Multnomah Falls. Also, a drive along the Mt. Hood scenic highway would be well worth it IF THE WEATHER COOPERATES! :) Hasn't looked very good for the last 2 weeks.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

You can also try Washington Park. It's not breathe taking but it will do if there's nothing else to shoot. There's a pretty nice Japanese Garden in there.

There's the Chinese Gardens, downtown and not too far from that other Portland landmark, Powell's Books.

If you have even a REMOTE book addiction, you might want to avoid Powell's :D It's tough to walk out of there with fewer than 10 books...

Maybe that's why all the airlines feature it in the in-flight magazines on every flight to/through PDX.

Too funny! She said something about a "huge book store". It must be Powell's! I'll pass along the info about the Chinese Gardens. Snydremark, she said she is buying a few books. Not sure how many, but I hear ya about adding to one's library.

I'm embarrassed I didn't mention that. Yes, it is considered the most traditional and best Japanese garden outside Japan. A must-see if she enjoys that sort of thing.
