I ordered an M, and it turned up today, had no time to play, but from just messing I am quite impressed so far, but for me it is all about being able to use all of my EF Lenses.
Also the fact I only paid £500-00 to my door with 22 mm lens and EF adapter.

Photographic Images on Brett Butler (external link) px500 (external link) & Flickr (external link) Some Canon Bodies , few blackish lenses, A dam heavy black one, couple dirty white ones, a 3 legged walking stick, a mono walking stick, and a bag full of rubbish

.

That and the fact that it's a t4i in a point and shoot body without the viewfinder or flash and, likely, less impressive AF. All reviews I have seen say the image quality is excellent and the same in all respects as the t4i. We'll see about that.

He's not excited I think because it's not an exciting camera for him but maybe for somebody else.

I think the big problem was he had ONE hour with the thing, Thats really not enough time to really explore the camera fully... I'm guessing with most of the reviews he gets a day or two using it, Not just what we see on camera but sitting there and getting a rough "feel" for the camera and its capabilities which allows him to condense down a good opinion and better utilize the camera, He seemed VERY rushed in this review... And apparently the AF was a big problem, i think he made that point pretty clear (ONe of the instances it felt like forever before the camera actually went off, the subject was WAY behind him and he had lowered the camera and the flash went off)

I think his mistake in this instance was not getting Alamby and having her do something to test out the AF and everything as opposed to seeking subjects in the wild, Of course i also was going "DUDE! FLOWERS BEHIND YOU" repeatedly when he was walking with it...

I'll take Kai's opinion over someone like Ken Rockwell any day of the week, Kai usually does make very good points most of the time, I never find his reviews uninformative.. Yes he screws around, but he usually makes a point or two...

Well I don't need a flash, (I have several flash guns all ready) as for AF, well again it is not a DSLR, though maybe with a fast EF lens it may be better not tried it, but the focus was not all that bad I thought for a point and shoot, VF, again it does not bother me, for general street and messing around you do not need a VF, I use live view a lot on my DSLrs's anyhow, the only time I may miss it is for Sports, but ohh it is not really a sports body :)

Trouble is people think anything Canon or I guess Nikon too release should be as good as top of the range body, for a fraction of the price.

AF has always been the talk of the EOS-M since the beginning.

Seriously? Based on that ridiculous YouTube review? He complains about the AF and he's fast walking, holding the camera in one hand while taking shots of people walking quickly toward him. Then he takes shots of white poles against a bright white background. Then he mounts two of the heavier EF lenses. And the 85 1.2 is is not exactly known as an AF performer. Useless review. And he is capable of good reviews.

That was the 50L he mounted, not the 85L

 Kudos to you. I like DigitalRev but one playthrough is usually enough for me per vid, haha

Thread summary:
# of reviews of EOS M by Kai: 1
# of reviews of Kai by POTN: 11

Seems about on-par for a thread containing a review by everyone's favourite Asian Elmer Fudd.

I completely agree with this statement. Kai does get his point across when he needs to. He may not be the best person around, but he is great cheap entertainment. Other people do a smell test of camera, some go out and shoot and Kai makes things fun.

The comments on DigitalRev/Kai happen like clockwork on every single one of these threads.

Reminds me of those comments on Youtube videos, "LOL only 303 views? Youtube is broken LOL"

As far as the EOS-M is concerned, I would never buy 1st-gen tech. Look at the first-gen micro 4/3rds - AF performance was completely lackluster (even by certain point-and-shoot standards). A few years later, we have the Oly OMD, blows even some DSLR's out of the water in AF (and some say IQ as well).

Canon finally joined the party - albeit a little late. Hopefully they do like Oly and make leaps and bounds with new iterations of this new line.

Thanks for the link. I too was playing with the camera in PhotoPlus last week. The focus was painfully slow. To make it worse, I went straight to Olympus' booth to play with EPL-5 which had a much better and faster AF.

6D + enough lenses for now.
