The comments on DigitalRev/Kai happen like clockwork on every single one of these threads.

Reminds me of those comments on Youtube videos, "LOL only 303 views? Youtube is broken LOL"

As far as the EOS-M is concerned, I would never buy 1st-gen tech. Look at the first-gen micro 4/3rds - AF performance was completely lackluster (even by certain point-and-shoot standards). A few years later, we have the Oly OMD, blows even some DSLR's out of the water in AF (and some say IQ as well).

Canon finally joined the party - albeit a little late. Hopefully they do like Oly and make leaps and bounds with new iterations of this new line.

Yep, until it gets a real viewfinder and real AF...it's just a toy.

So, to summarise.

Kai's review on the M agrees with most if not all amateur and pro reviewers - great IQ, crap AF. His test, although rushed, used his normal street photography routine, but the lack of results would indicate that there weren't too many that were viewable. He's a Leica guy, but I never find him to be anti Canon, Nikon or any other brand for that matter and he says he wanted the M to be great.

Kai's problem is that his style, humour, language etc are very British and that's not to everyone's taste, although very familiar to me as a Brit.

But we all watch him don't we, like him or not? Cos we wouldn't want to miss anything. So what he's achieved is lots of hits on YouTube and consequently, Digitalrev achieving high brand awareness - they must be in the top five best known photo dealers internationally and more accessible outside the US than the likes of B&H, Adorama, etc. Which is, I guess, what he's paid to do.

It's like someone once said about Mcdonalds. You might not like the taste, but you certainly know what you're gonna get...

No, I don't watch him.

At first, I thought he was entertaining, but that wore out very quickly. His schtick is just unbearable to watch. He is always more impressed with himself than with anything he is reviewing.

And I "get" British humor. I like British humor. I don't like this fool (JMO, of course).

Plus, his "reviews" are extremely superficial.

So, unbearable schtick, superficial "reviews"... what's the point?

As I said, I haven't watched anything of his after the first few.

The point is, he's not the same as everyone else.

And I didn't realise he used a schtick. Broke his leg has he?

It's oy vey...

Back to the subject, I can't believe I just wasted 13 minutes watching that "review".
The fact that they actually put this up on Youtube as a "review" is pretty telling...

Anyway, it should neither encourage nor discourage anyone from buying an EOS-M.
As others have said, I'll wait for a real review...

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

I actually enjoy Digital Rev and it's review on the EOS M. I think people take it too much to heart over a simple camera. They test out the gear they get the way they would use it. You get to see the obvious features and potential flaws in a off-beat humor. It's not everyone's cup of tea understandably. That being said I think they way they review the EOS M and other gear is far better than lab tests you see a decent amount of. Frankly, I use my camera in the real world and enjoy seeing them and other gear tested in the real world.

Bottom line is that its one review and one does not base their opinion to buy something on a single review. I agree if there was more time the review may have been better.

I didn't find the review that enjoyable really, he was running around to much. only 1 hour with the camera, go out side and shoot with the thing. You don't have to run around the city like a mad man to get to the right location.

His videos are entertaining for sure. If you don't like him then don't watch and if you don't watch your not really in a position to comment. It's easy to be negative about something and the internet makes it easier to tell the whole world but really no one cares.

I think most of his review is spot on but it will be interesting to know what settings he had on the camera that may have effected the AF.

If anyone is interested in buying an item and only go from one review then double dumb ass on them. You watch/read many reviews as possible and then you can get an idea on the product. I find DigitalRev reviews to well rounded in many ways and can be informative.

I still think that the EOS M is canon's 1/2 assed idea in to a market they really didn't want to go in to.

I'm not sure my 5d2 would focus in those conditions...:D

Kai is good value, usually his thoughts & feelings are pretty close to correct even if it isnt very scientific or 'professional'.

the eos m does seem to have poor af outside of a few limited use cases.

Kai is the Jeremy Clarkson of photography, very British, arrogant and opinionated, with a journalists understanding of his subject matter (i.e. opinion is often more important than technical facts).

I happen to find him very entertaining, the point of the EOS-M review was more to hassle Canon than review the EOS M. All the other brands seem to have an excellent relationship with digital rev and give them all sorts of gear to play with and test, review etc.
Canon on the other hand keep trying to pretend they don't exist. I've encountered it my self in the local market, there is a level of arrogance from Canon with in the Asia Pacific that makes them hard to deal with.

I find Kai entertaining and just because he injects humor, doesn't mean there aren't valid points made
