Advice. Don't shoot drunk and post. Being an amateur is perfectly fine. Being a drunken amateur comes off as childish and not serious.

I don't know, is being a bit more flighty/light-hearted against the forum rules? IMO, the forum could sometimes benefit from having a more relaxed perspective on people's work and comments i.e. some people (and I don't mean you) are a bit stuck up sometimes on account of being 'serious'.

And, well, beyond all the gear, photography IS an art, which also benefits from more open-mindedness and sometimes open-ended experimentation, and I feel this could be seen as the OP's intention here.

Brelly, if you really want help, don't mention that you were drunk when taking the photos and you have not made any attempt at editing them. Basically, you get taken seriously when you come across seriously. In my opinion, and it appears a few others, your first attempt at posting some images for critique was not truly a serious attempt.

I feel the OP's 'attempt' at getting comments (I don't know why you call it an attempt, since it seems to me that it was successful) was, I feel, well within the spirit and rules of this forum (correct me if I'm wrong), so I don't know why you would be coming here trying to impose your own way of doing it.

And who said it wa a serious attempt? Again, pointing out something I've not done, jeez, it's a forum, lighten up. I've sauna couple o times I'm new to it, all unasked for was a little advice, not people being over the top on being SERIOUS when I'm clearly an AMATUER. Okay?

Oh and surely being amatuer, is the point of not being serious? No?

Nope. I know a lot of amateur photographers including myself that are very serious about their craft. Really depends on why you peruse photography. If it is to take snapshots of friends in stupid situations so you can post onto Facebook, then being serious about your photography is definately optional. If you want to improve your craft, then a serious approach is mandatory IMO.

Well then I'm sorry, but I think you're wrong. Why can't I go about a serious approach in a less serious manner? Your basically saying there's only one way to do it, and there isn't really, is there? It muppets like you that spoil other people's fun, because you don't like the way they are doing what they want to do.

Again another person with sense, I don't think there's a right or a wrong way to be honest, do you?

I am sorry about spoiling your childish fun discussing photos you took while you were drunk. Then not even putting any effort in editing the photos and wanting honest advice on how to improve on them. This muppet don't have time for you if you don't even have time for yourself. I know you have grown up ( I have doubts on this as well ) in the instant gratification world...but improvements in photography is a life long endeavor and shooting drunk not knowing why or how you took the shot will not get you very far with your skills.

I'll let you continue on with that conversation... in the meantime, I'm going to the store to pick up some cider and, who knows, I might whip out my 60mm and make it a macro party! :p

You can doubt all you like sunshine, you have no idea who i am, or what ive been therough. I don't particularly want your time as you seem a bit stuck up, and aren't really being very useful as to what I've asked previously. Again, you're just going on the basis that I want to be a serious photographer, again you're wrong, maybe one day i will, but not for now. So stop imposing your ways because you don't like others. You've not really go a valid argument here, so do us both a favour and don't reply, cheers.

Hogloff hit the nail on the head. We're not saying you shouldn't have fun. The point is that if you aren't putting serious effort into it, then why should anyone else help? Neither I, nor Hogloff were griping. What we're doing is giving you advice just like you asked for. That advice is to shoot sober so you really know what you are doing so you can be in a position to understand how to improve. If that isn't your goal, then by all means, post away, but no one can help you improve if you aren't willing to help yourself.

I am serious....and don't call me Shirley.

I don't see the OP isn't willing to help [her?]self.

And what you are doing is exactly what I and Brelly denounce: look for what you said, in bold. That is setting arbitrary rules that don't have a place in art.

I'm not saying people SHOULD, or HAVE TO, how ever you'd like to word it. I've made a post, asked for some advice, quite clearly shown that I'm not taking it too seriously as I said that I was drunk and new to the photography. You're going on as if I have to abide by the laws or rules you set, I think you'll find I don't actually. So where has all this seriousness come form? Well, you tell me. And again, a pointless remark, I've come asking for advice, yet you say I'm not willing to improve myself?

Still making sense you are. I don't see how they haven't worked out that I'm trying to help myself, I've sort of stated that by posting haven't I? And yeah, I agree, they're making their own rules and think it's correct.

PS. it's HIMself ;)

What does getting drunk, taking your camera and pressing the shutter have anything to do with art? Basically I can give the camera to a monkey and I am sure it would take some photos...but it sure as he'll won't be art.

Coming onto a forum, proclaiming you were drunk while taking the photos and then not making the effort to spend a bit of time processing those photos...and you want honest guidance? Well the only guidance I can provide is to take yourself seriously if you want others to do as well.

And I don't understand why the OP even mentioned he (she ) was drunk... What does thst have to do with photography?
