The serial no. Issue Dave, camera working ok but would not be able to get it serviced in the future should it fail so it has to be put right!

Ah ok Thanks Wolfy. I know about the serial number but it was your post on TP that stated
"have promised to have to my camera or a new one if mine is not fixed, dispatched by the 13th December."
I didn't think there as any actual faults with it so I found that statement a bit confusing.

Have Canon UK actually told you that you won't have a problem from them if you get the label changed?

No they haven't however as this was why Simon could not get his serviced even at his cost I am assuming this to be the case. As we stand now and what I know they will certainly not touch it as it is. It may prove that even with a correct serial if you get them on a wrong day they might refuse however it's a major hurdle removed.

Canon refused, even at my cost. It wasn't the serial, it was the label that caused the issue. The label serial and serial in camera was another problem on top......

It opens up a can of worms if Canon refuses to repair the camera, even at the owners expense (not warranty) , that means with a fake label, you would never be able to have any camera repaired by an official service center.

With the newer technology, Canon's policy is not to release any service details to third party repairers, so that camera, if it was a newer model, would be dead


This would definitely be a negative for grey marketing (who would know if they had a fake label) , as most owners would like some sort of repair coverage after the 1 year warranty, even if it is at their own expense

Did the serial number on the lens, box and EXIF data all match up as well?

I dont think ive seen any mention of the lens serial number being wrong. Good question.

Have you ever checked your lenses like this before Dave? Are you going to now?

Not sure if it was asked on here or tp forums but I did check the lens in my 5d kit and all matched up!
