Oh whoops!

If you rub the goof off all over and then draw a fine red line round the top you could maybe pass it off as a special edition white L flash..? ;)

been there done that ... not on a 580ex though. after doing the damage, i went ahead and read the warnings on the Goof Off bottle -- MAY DAMAGE PLASTIC! FML :/

Goo Gone is just as effective -- and much safer to use on plastics than Goof Off.

Yikes! I've had good results with using WD-40 to remove residue but not sure it's safe for all plastics or not...

Throw that stuff away, I get in trouble that alll the time.
That Goof off will remove nuclear waste but leave a mark at the same time.

This kinda reminds me of when, as a young teenager, I made a mess of my jeans with some oil. I figured I'd go down to the basement and clean the oil stains out. Bleach is what I decided to use because Mom used it in most of the family wash loads. Of course, I didn't read any instructions or cautions. So...... I poured bleach right out of the bottle onto the oil stains in my jeans. Enough said?

Wow.

I bought a 580EXII from a local photographer... he had put a label on the flash head with his name and contact information. I removed most of it by hand, but there was still a decent amount of residue left. I used Goo Gone to get it off without any issues.

Yes Goo Gone is what should be used. I bought some small bottles of it at the Dollar Store - use it to remove the residue from price stickers, etc. GG should be in every photographer's kit......I even noticed it in my favorite MUA's kit - she told me it has a million and one uses...

The Goof Off was on a shelf in the garage and I was suckered in by reading the front of the can :o 'Glue Adhesives', 'Sticker Residue', 'Labels' !!! Besides that, I would have needed my glasses to read the back of the can :o

Ok, GOO GONE it is then, in the future...

Goo Gone is citrus based and much gentler. Goof Off seems very similar to lacquer thinner.

Nothing some masking tape and flat black paint won't fix ;).

Goof Off is great stuff, but you've gotta know what you can't use it on.

Let's hope the stained area wasn't near the zipper.
